oh, right college...

i am nit sure what has kept me from posting...then i remembered....college.
even though there are a lot of times where i feel like i'm not doing anything, i always kinda feel busy here. or at least, like there is something i could/should be doing.

so. college...its pretty sweet. i love the fact that it has been like 2 months since i have been here and i still feel like it is going to end at any minute. i am at an ever lasting summer camp. but maybe thats just my life in general, which wouldnt be so bad, i guess. i always liked summer camp, so i am down with that.

i love making new friends, when you find the right ones. when you get to the point in the early stages (past 1st impressions, before BFF) where you can just tell that this person is going to be a good friend. i have found a few people here that i can;t wait to just be great friends with, and some that i already feel like there is an awesome connection to.
then there are those people who i can tell i will never like...and i want them to just go away.
but i also miss my friends from home. long phone calls once a week just aren't enough some nights!

are you serious?

tonight on the way home from allison's house, ryan and i saw a group of girls take turns peeing behind a garbage can inside an underground T stop. they did it right under the stairs, and behind a trash can..... it was the most hysterical and disgusting thing i have seen in a while. and as ryan put it "that just made my day."

i got a helga camera today! it is one of the crapppiest cameras ever made. and i love it. it is entirely made out of plastic and takes pretty shitty unreliable pictures, but that is the beauty in it. i can't wait to test it out at the beach this weekend!

only at art school...

so only at art school... do kids willingly make their sitting/common room into a giant pinhole camera. basically you cover every light source in the room, and only allow light to come in from one small hole. the light that comes in is upside down but actually makes images of the outside. so last night i sat inside this theoretical giant room camera and watched the city lights filter in to form the buildings which stand outside and little flickering lights of the cars traveling by. very cool to say the least.

so only at art school....do kids walk the streets and go through others garbage to furnish their own rooms. apparently this weekend is move in and move out day for the apartments around here. so all these college kids are coming and going, and some of them just don't have room to take stuff with them, wherever they might be off to. so left of the side walks are tables, chairs, clothing, tvs, computer parts, wall units, and just about anything else. i just can't believe these people just throw this stuff away instead of at least giving it away to goodwill or another consignment shop. but then again is does allow poor art students an ample chance to 'dumpster dive' to find not so hidden treasures. on one of my excursions i brought back a full mirror for my bedroom and a chair for our common room.

so, only at art school...can i have hour long discussions with people my own age about art in a serious and involved manner. i have had more discussions about art, with people my own age, in the past few days then i have ever had. it is just so interesting and stimulating to have a peer understand and comprehend what i am talking about in reference to art.

first day of college

first day of college...OVER.
really not too bad, i met some cool people, and it turns out a few of the kids from the summer program i went to are here too. so it was very easy. it is kinda weird being back here. it feels just the same as before, but now it is college.

my mecca, in a day

so far my trip to cali has not let me down. yesterday we went into town and did a little shopping/browsing. we went to the SFMoMA and had lunch in the park with adam and kates friend amanda.
then later that night we went to a 'uniform costume party' thrown by amandas 3 gay room mates. adam was the
only one of us that actually dressed up out of the three off us. he was a sushi chef, and kate and i wore jeans and t-shirts. we got there at like 9:30, even though the party was called for 9, and were still practically the firsts to arrive. all of amandas room mates had on little costumes, and i mean little. a lot of spandex too. about an hour later the place was packed with gay men and as amanda called them 'fag hags' (straight girls who hang around gay men for no apparent reason.)
the best line of the night, dude sitting next to me all of a sudden out of no where "WHERES THE POT!?!?" i almost peed my pants laughing. just the way he said it.

today we woke up super early and went downtown to the get fresh fish as well as take a trip to the farmers market. it was super coolios. there was SO much fresh fruit it was unbelievable b/c you could try each kind. THEN there were an unbelievable amount of beautiful sunflowers. buckets and buckets full of sunflowers. they were so sunny, and happy, smilie and bright. i had tamales for the first time today. those corn wrapped thingers with black beans on the side.
after a lot of taste testing we went back to adam and kates, but soon left to take a drive along the coast with amanda.
we drove and drove until we got to a blue water white sand beach that was gorgeous. took lots of pictures and made a little bit of nature art. THEN went to my mecca....STRAWBERRY FIELD! we went and picked strawberries for a buck 50 a pound! and you could eat as many as you wanted as you picked. and oh lord it was my utopia.
then we came back to their apartment and had fresh strawberry daiquiris and FRESH shrimp and scallop with FRESH pasta and yummy bread.

SOOO MANY STRAWBERRIES!
